A Blessing
A blessing:
best friends and your family
faith and tradition
the smallest bit of hope lighting up the most difficult part of life.
A blessing:
health and happiness;
people that have come into your life and gone;
not being afraid to show everyone who you are;
being able to get through the pleasant and dreadful times when it seems you’re all alone;
seeing the good in the worst things.
A blessing:
No matter how big or little a thing—
It’s a blessing.
So, live in every moment like it’s your last,
Leave your bad memories in your past,
Focus on all the people who surround you with love,
Because you are the blessing.

Purple Comfort
Ripped seams from younger days.
Heart-broken days
wrapped up in purple fleece
like a present on Christmas day.
A kitten's charcoal-colored fur
which still seems to cover my forgotten cartoon heroes.
Thought of more than a source of warmth,
but of all four Teletubbies
and taking naps
with my plump cat in my arms.
Pink blotches still seem to dance across the fading fabric,
left behind from my poor kitten's medicine
after his big, crystal-blue eyes
went wild.
Invisible tears
left from that one last hug,
that one last kiss.
Those last blinks of my best friend.
These folded up moments
protected on my shelf
behind a closed door.
